Glyphs Overview
Crit is a versatile sans serif family with eight weights and matching italics. The design references early grotesks, but reworks them with contemporary proportions, squarish counters, and tight vertical dimensions. With a tall x-height, compact ascenders and descenders, Crit offers strong presence in headlines while maintaining legibility in small sizes.
Despite its clean, utilitarian structure, Crit introduces purposeful details. Counter shapes become progressively squarer as weight increases. This allows heavier styles to retain structure without appearing bloated. Wider round elements, and a couple of uncommon ligatures contribute to Crit’s unique flavor.
Spacing is set to allow both default and negative tracking without manual correction. OpenType features include stylistic alternates, round dots and localized forms for extended language support. Designed as a single, adaptable cut without separate display or text versions, Crit introduces structural refinements that distinguish it from other neo-grotesks. It prioritizes spatial efficiency, consistent texture, and precise visual alignment across all sizes.
